September 11 – Two Special Memories

One of the two reflecting pools at the 9/11 Memorial in New York. Water flows from the edges down into the center, appearing to disappear into infinity.

September 11 is associated with two very different events that are connected in a special way to the life of Art Garfunkel Jr. and his family.

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, a profound tragedy shook the United States and, in particular, New York. The events of that day not only changed the lives of countless people, but also had a lasting impact on the world.

Art Garfunkel Jr. was ten years old at the time. He remembers that day and how he learned about the events. His memories of that day are connected to his childhood in New York and to the time he spent there as a young boy.

September 11 also has another meaning in the family history.

In 1973 – long before Art Garfunkel Jr. was born – his father Art Garfunkel released “Angel Clare,” his first solo album and the beginning of a new chapter in his musical career. The album represents an important period in his father’s musical history and is therefore also part of the family history.

Thus, September 11 brings together two very different chapters: the beginning of his father’s solo career in 1973 and Art Garfunkel Jr.’s personal memory of September 11, 2001, which he experienced as a ten-year-old child in New York.
