“Schlager für alle – Weihnachten”: Art Garfunkel Jr. on the New Christmas Collection

Art Garfunkel Jr. and Christmas are musically connected through his album “Advent.” He is also featured alongside his father, Art Garfunkel, on the compilation “Schlager für alle – Weihnachten,” which will be released on October 30, 2026. The extensive five-CD box set brings together a total of 100 tracks and includes two Christmas duets by father and son, both of which also appear on Art Garfunkel Jr.’s album “Advent.”
CD 1 features “The First Noël.” This traditional English Christmas carol tells the story of the birth of Jesus and the announcement of his birth to the shepherds. Its solemn melody and contemplative character have made it a well-established part of the international Christmas repertoire. In their joint interpretation on “Advent,” the voices of Art Garfunkel Jr. and Art Garfunkel come together. The restrained arrangement gives the vocals room to shine and highlights the harmony between father and son. Their vocal interplay is particularly interesting: Art Garfunkel Jr. contributes his own distinctive vocal personality, while his father adds his characteristic clear, high tenor—a sound that has been associated with numerous well-known recordings for decades. Together, they give the traditional Christmas carol a personal touch without diminishing its contemplative character.
CD 4 features “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” a song by John Lennon and Yoko Ono from 1971. The track is one of the best-known Christmas and peace songs, connecting the festive season with a message that extends far beyond Christmas. At its heart are the desire for peace, compassion, and the idea that creating a more peaceful world requires collective action.
Here, too, Art Garfunkel Jr. performs alongside his father. One specific musical detail makes this new interpretation particularly interesting: in the original recording, the recurring response “War is over” is sung by the Harlem Community Choir. In the duet version with Art Garfunkel Jr., Art Garfunkel takes over this distinctive passage with his unmistakable voice. His characteristic high, clear vocal tone stands out at a particularly memorable moment in the song. At the same time, Art Garfunkel Jr. remains an essential partner in the interpretation. The interplay between their voices creates a distinctive version of the well-known classic, embracing the original’s message of peace while making the musical connection between father and son audible.
“Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” was released on November 7, 2025, as the first single from Art Garfunkel Jr.’s Christmas album “Advent.” The album followed on November 28, 2025, and contains 14 tracks. Alongside traditional Christmas carols, it features international classics in a variety of interpretations. Three recordings were made with Art Garfunkel: “Auld Lang Syne,” “The First Noël,” and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).” These duets are a special part of the album because they bring together two generations of a musical family, combining the father’s distinctive voice with his son’s independent musical expression.
With “Schlager für alle – Weihnachten,” two of these joint recordings are now included in a new, extensive Christmas collection. “The First Noël” on CD 1 and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” on CD 4 represent different musical approaches to the Christmas season: the contemplative traditional carol on the one hand, and the modern classic with its message of peace on the other. Both tracks also highlight the special connection between Art Garfunkel Jr. and his father. Art Garfunkel’s unmistakable voice gives their joint interpretations a distinctive sound, while Art Garfunkel Jr. contributes his own voice and musical personality to the duets.
For Art Garfunkel Jr. and his Christmas music, the compilation offers another opportunity to rediscover two of his recordings with his father as part of an extensive collection. The five-CD box set brings together 100 tracks, offering a varied selection for the Advent and Christmas season.
